P.V. Ramaswamy Chettiar embarked on a journey that would transform the landscape of traditional clothing in India. With nothing but his craftsmanship, passion, and the unwavering support of his wife, Smt. Veerammal, he set out to sell hand-woven veils and bath towels. What started as a humble home-business soon flourished into a trusted brand, Ramsons Dhotis, known for its superior quality and innovation in the textile industry.
As the business grew, Chettiar’s eldest son, Sri. R. Dharmalingan, joined the venture at the tender age of 15. With his dedication and keen business acumen, he propelled Ramsons to new heights, expanding its presence across the Malabar region, including Kozhikode, Kannur, and Wayanad. Under his leadership, Ramsons became a household name, serving over 80% of the Malabar region.
The family’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. Sri. R. Dhakshinamoorthy, the second son, expanded the Ramsons empire beyond textiles by launching Sri Muruga Gold and Finance, a finance division that solidified Ramsons’ presence in the corporate world. In 1993, he established Ramsons Fashion Jewellery, which later evolved into Ramsons Jewellers in Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur. By 2018, Ramsons Jewellers celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a legacy of excellence in the jewellery industry.
Meanwhile, Chettiar’s younger son, Sri. R. Venugopalan, carried forward the family’s entrepreneurial vision, setting his sights on the vibrant markets of Southern Kerala. With ambition, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the values on which Ramsons was built, he led the brand into new territories, expanding its presence and deepening its roots across the region. His pioneering efforts marked a significant chapter in the Ramsons legacy, transforming a growing enterprise into a formidable name in Kerala’s textile landscape and further strengthening the family’s enduring heritage of trust, tradition, and excellence.
From a small handloom business to a multi-faceted empire, Ramsons has remained steadfast in its commitment to quality. Their 100% cotton dhotis, woven with the finest threads, continue to be a benchmark of excellence. Over the years, Ramsons has expanded its product range to include sarees, set-mundus, and churidhars, offering an array of traditional attire that embodies the essence of Kerala.
